Finding a problem and fixing it are different jobs, and the second one is ours. Send the result over and you get back what it would take to put right — scoped and priced, from the person who would do the work, within one business day.

What this tool measures

Paste a list of titles and get a URL slug for each: lowercase, hyphenated, filler words removed, accents flattened, and capped at a sensible length.

The reason this is not a two-line regex is Arabic. Every slug tool strips characters it does not recognise, which turns an Arabic headline into an empty slug or an unreadable string. On a bilingual UAE site that is not an edge case, it is half the content. So this offers both defensible answers — transliterate to ASCII, or keep the Arabic — and is honest about what each one costs you.

How to use it

Paste one title per line. A whole content plan at once is the intended use; doing these individually is how a site ends up with three different conventions.

Pick the script mode before you judge the output. Latin handles English and any accented European language. Arabic to Latin transliterates to ASCII, which gives you a stable, typeable slug — bearing in mind that written Arabic omits short vowels, so the result is a consonant skeleton rather than a pronunciation. Keep Arabic preserves the original, which is valid, indexable, and displayed correctly in every current browser's address bar.

How to read the result

A slug's job is to be readable, stable and short. Readable because it appears in the search result under the title and in every place a link is pasted. Stable because changing it later means a redirect and a small loss. Short because Google truncates the breadcrumb, and a slug with twelve words gets cut in the middle.

Filler words are dropped by default — the, and, of, how — because they add length without adding meaning. The tool will not strip a title down to nothing, so a short title keeps its words.

For Arabic, the choice comes down to how your links get shared. An Arabic slug renders as Arabic in a browser and is percent-encoded on the wire, so it appears as a run of %D8 codes anywhere the URL is pasted as plain text — an email footer, a printed card, a spreadsheet. If that happens often, transliterate.

What to do next

Set the convention once and apply it to everything. Mixed conventions on one site — some slugs with dates, some with categories, some with stop words — cost nothing individually and make the site harder to reason about for everyone who touches it later.

Do not change slugs on live pages without a redirect. A slug that is merely imperfect is not worth the redirect, the lost link equity and the broken shares. Get it right on new pages and leave the old ones alone.

Questions people ask

Hyphens or underscores?

Hyphens. Google has treated hyphens as word separators and underscores as joiners since the beginning, so web_design_dubai can be read as one token. This is one of the few pieces of SEO folklore that is simply true and has never changed.

Should the slug include the date or the category?

Rarely. A date in the URL makes an article look stale even after it has been updated, and a category in the path means recategorising an article breaks its URL. A flat, descriptive slug survives both.

Are Arabic URLs bad for SEO?

No. Google indexes internationalised URLs correctly and has for years, and an Arabic slug is arguably more relevant to an Arabic-speaking searcher who sees it rendered in the result. The trade-off is presentation outside the browser, not indexing.

How long should a slug be?

Short enough to read at a glance — three to six words covers almost everything. The cap here is seven. Length has no direct ranking effect; the effect is on whether the URL survives truncation in a result and whether a person can tell what it points at.
